After driving through deep valleys and mountain passes we arrive at Glaumbær Heritage Museum. The main part of the museum is the old farmhouse at Glaumbær. The house is built of turf, stones, and timber and consists of a total of 13 buildings, each of which had it´s own function. The main unit is the badstofa, a communal eating/sleeping room, where people sat to do their handwork. Food was stored and prepared in the pantry and kitchen-firehouse. The front hall, passages, and south entrance (Brandahús) provided access throughout the farmhouse. One house provided accommodation for the elders and other members of the household. There are two guest rooms, two storerooms, and a smithy (blacksmith’s workshop). We visit this old house and get to know how Icelanders used to live up until 20th century.
We then drive to a horse farm, were you are given an introduction to the unique Icelandic horse. Get to know what makes this beautiful animal so unique and even have a go at riding one.
After this riding tour experience you are given some local refreshments and drinks before heading back to Akureyri.
During the tour you will also get the chance to stop at a hidden waterfall in the area.
This tour is an ideal for anyone who wants to find out more about Icelandic culture and daily life during different times in history, as well as meet the Icelandic horse. Riding skills are not necessary on this tour.
