If you are unexperienced or maybe your skills need a bit of training before you trust yourself to go out on the fjord, then its ideal to start paddleing on the pond were we can help you out getting started. Anytime you want to move your Kayak to the ocean you are free to do so. We make sure that anyone who go out on our boats get an information about using the boats and safety. The boats are sit on top kayaks and everyone who go out on them get a lifejacket with it.
Eyjafjord inside of Hjalteyri is an ideal place for kayaking. 50 km away from the edge coastline of the artic ocean in the north and around 65 km south of the artic circle. This mean that at Hjalteyri we are sheltered from the big ocean waves. The fjörd is a long and narrow bay surrounded with high mountains. The deep of the fjord bring in the whales during the summer months, Humpback are the most common ones, but also few other types like; Minkye Whale, Harbour Porpoises, Dolphins and even Killer Whales (Orca). The fjord is open to the north so you can enjoy the midnight sun floating on the ocean during the summer.
Fishing from the Kayak in the ocean is a fun experience, most common is to catch some cod or haddock but of course you could get other type like pollock or catfish.
At the beach is a hot tub with a geothermal water up to around 38°c. It is included in all our kayaktours / rentals that you can go in the hot tub for good relaxing soak after your paddleing experience.
