For your convenience we pick you up from Keflavik airport on your arrival to Iceland. The tour includes: exploring the capital city of Iceland Reykjavik, the Golden Circle tour, horse riding and home cooked food at Lytingsstaðir horse farm, the beauty of Snæfellsnes peninsula and much more.

Reykjavik Iceland

Day 1: Your arrival and exploring Reykjavik 

Your guide will be waiting to welcome you on your arrival to Keflavik airport. After a 40 minute drive through lava fields we arrive in Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland. Reykjavik is a cosmopolitan city, full of life, history, entertainment and culture. Quint and colourful houses line the street next to modern glass art decor buildings.Dominating the skyline is the spire of Hallgrimskirkja (Hallgrims church). With plenty of shops, cafe´s, restaurants, bars, museums and other attractions you will soon realise that Reykjavik offers everything a capital city should without the hustle and bustle of other capital cities.   
 After some sightseeing around the city we settle in at the guesthouse Sunna. On the evening there are plenty of options available, such as, enjoying dinner over the harbour, whale watching in the evening sun or just exploring Reykjavik at your own pace. Iceland is the land of the midnight sun so why not make the most of it on your first evening here.

Gullfoss Iceland

Day 2: The Golden Circle tour before heading North

After an early breakfast we hit the road and really get to see how the forces of nature have shaped Iceland. The Golden Circle tour takes you to some of the key historical and geological sites in Iceland. You will see magnificent waterfalls, experience the Geysers in action and visit some of the most beautiful and unique locations in the South of Iceland. The final stop on the Golden Circle is Þingvellir (site of the first parliament, established in 930) and then we drive to the North of Iceland were we will be spending next 3 nights. After a long but enjoyable day we arrive at Lytingsstaðir horse farm were we are welcomed with lovely home cooked dinner.

Day 3: Lýtingsstaðir horse farm - Horses & Heritage

This day is all about Icelandic culture, horses and heritage. After breakfast you are invited to join our hosts on a 3 hour horse riding tour (Icelandic horses are very gentle with a unique gait so both beginners and experienced riders will enjoy this riding experience). Later that day you will take a step back in time at the old turf house Glaumbær. This heritage museum has many artifacts on display giving you a glimpse of life in Iceland over the last 1000 years. At the museum it is possible to have a light lunch before heading back to our accommodation at Lytingsstaðir. After a lovely dinner in the evening you will enjoy our program Horses & Heritage, were we get to know more about the Icelandic horse and its part in the Icelandic history and culture.

Day 4: Relaxing, Riding and Enjoying the Beauty of Skagafjörd

After a busy few days this day will be more relaxed. After a leisurely breakfast, you will have the opportunity for more horse riding. This riding tour will take you into the peaceful Icelandic countryside where you will stop for a picnic lunch before saddling up again. You will spend the rest of the afternoon at your leisure. In the early evening we will take you on short sightseeing drive to Reykjafoss waterfall. This hidden gem is the largest waterfall in the Skagafjördur district. Nearby is a natural hot spring where the locals built a small bathing pool 1000 years ago. Dipping into the warm water for a relaxing soak in the evening sun is an experience not to be missed and will be sure to relax your muscles after the days riding tour.

Day 5: Splendid Skagafjörd 

After breakfast we begin a fun day of sightseeing. We begin by driving to Hólar, the location of the former capital in the area, junior high school, cathedral and more. This is an area of historical importance and your guide will be able to tell all about it. We will also visit another kind of church today which is very small and different to any you will have seen in Iceland so far. At Hofsós you get to know all about the Icelanders immigration to Canada and North America, see basalt columns and more, before going for a swim in what is known as the swimming pool with the best view.  
On arriving back to our accommodation at Lytingsstaðir we enjoy a barbecue and locally made drinks. At midnight we take a short riding tour into the never ending sunset and say goodbye to the farm.

Day 6: Heading west - Snæfellsnes Peninsula

Throughout most of the year it is covered with ice and snow, Snæfellsjökull is one of Iceland´s bigger volcanoes and is situated on the Snæfellsnes peninsula. This mystic place were Jules Verne placed the entrance to the center of the earth in his famous story is where you will be going to on day 6. The drive that start early morning after breakfast að Lytingsstaðir, will take you through some outstanding landscape and countryside. We will visit Arnarstapi a small fishing village where you will see spectacular rock formations and sea cliffs. Your accommodation for the night will be at Ensku Husin (The English House). On your arrival you will be greeted with a delicious and well deserved meal.

Day 7: Beautiful Hvalfjörður & back to Reykjavik

Today´s we drive along the former and scenic route #1 to Hvalfjörður. Your storytelling guide will make sure to tell you the folktale behind the name of this fjord. You will see where the British navy had their harbour during World War II. We then continue on this scenic route back to Reykjavik. Here you will have the afternoon for yourself. Later that day we will drive you to the Health Hotel which will be this nights accommodation. After settling in at the hotel we will take you on a small sightseeing tour of the area, ending at the world famous Blue Lagoon. Here you have the option to soak in the relaxing and healing waters or have a nice dinner in Blue Lagoon Restaurant.

Day 8: Your departure.

This last week has gone fast and we hope you will have many wonderful memories to take home. Your driver will make sure you arrive at Keflavik airport in plenty of time for your flight. Keflavík aiport is just a few minutes drive from the Health Hotel.
We hope that this week has been fun, entertaining and informative. We also hope that you will have a lot of good memories that will keep bring you back to Iceland and back to The Traveling Viking to explore more of our island that we are so proud to call our home!
