Askja is without a doubt one of the most magical & mysterious places in Iceland. This big caldera is located deep in the highland. Askja is one of the most active volcanoes in Iceland. To get there we drive through a volcanic desert, big lava fields with big and powerful rivers.

On the way, we come along Herdubreiđarlindir, a pleasant surprise. It is like an oasis in the middle of the highland area. No wonder the outlaws built their shelter here! Askja last erupted in 1967.
